Dr. Adelaide Tambo

Message from the Honorary Life Patron of the Cape Town City Ballet

"My love of classical ballet was born during my years of exile in London. My wish is that in the coming years, every South African will have access to, and learn to appreciate, this most gracious and beautiful art form. Cape Town City Ballet can be justly proud of its heritage, and my wish is for the Company to continue for many decades to entertain and bring joy to our people." Dr Adelaide Tambo |

Siegfried in Swan Lake. He has danced all the leading classical and romantic roles in the repertoire, he was equally at home in more modern works and was noted for his versatility and flair in dramatic and comedy roles. His exceptional skill in pas de deux made him a popular partner and he was much in demand dancing opposite numerous ballerinas both here and abroad including Royal Ballet guest Margaret Barbieri in Giselle.

In 1986 he was appointed Ballet Master while continuing as Principal Dancer. In 1990 following his Tribute Performance as the Prince in Sleeping Beauty he continued as ballet master and was appointed to head the Outreach programme which he has expanded to include the Audience Development and Development Training programmes. In 2008 he was appointed Artistic Director and Director of Outreach & Planning and continues to guest perform in roles such as Karenin in Anna Karenina and Monsieur Germont in Camille.
