Winter Spectacular

5 - 7 June 2008
The Masque Theatre, Muizenberg, Cape Town

The Cape Town City Ballet (CTCB) and the Dance for All Youth Company (DFAYC) will jointly present 'Winter Spectacular' at the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg, Cape Town, from 5 to 7 June 2008. The season is directed and produced by CTCB's Executive Director Professor Elizabeth Triegaardt, and Philip Boyd, the Artistic Director of the Dance for All Youth Company.

This season marks the fifth collaboration between two of the country's most dynamic companies, the CTCB, South Africa's premier ballet company, and the DFAYC, one of the newer additions to the professional dance scene, and it is a "must" for all ballet and dance lovers in the city.

'Winter Spectacular' will showcase thrilling pas de deux and solos from great and much-loved classical ballets such as 'The Merry Widow', performed recently at the Artscape Opera House to great acclaim, as well as the exciting and well-known ballets 'Don Quixote', 'Le Corsaire' and 'Paquita'.

Christopher Kindo's acclaimed neo-classical work, 'Dark Secrets', that he created for the Dance for All Youth Company, will also be seen for the first time. Laura Bosenberg, Robin van Wyk, Reika Sato and Emmerich Schmollgruber are amongst the outstanding dancers who will be performing from Cape Town City Ballet. The DFAYC dancers, some of whom have just returned from a successful tour to Canada and the USA, include Zandile Constable, Amy Koyd, Nqaba Mafilika and Xola Putye, who recently won the Kanna Award for Best Dancer at the Klein Karoo Kunstefees held in Oudtshoorn in March.

Performances take place on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th June at 20h15 with two performances on Saturday 7th June at 14h15 and 18h15. Tickets cost R50 and R60, with special discounts at all performances for Masque Theatre Club members. This is a very limited season and advance booking is therefore recommended through the Masque Theatre on 021 788 1898 between 9h00 and 16h00 on weekdays and between 09h00 and 12h00 on Saturdays.
