There is a cast of 70 children in each city, ranging from six to 21 years of age. Robin brings dancers from the Cape Town City Ballet to dance some of the roles in these productions, giving the children an opportunity to work closely with professional dancers in a professional production.

The story of The Ugly Duckling is set over one year as the little creature grows from a grey duckling into a beautiful swan. His journey is fraught with many dangers as he travels from meadow to farm, looking for warmth and shelter. He meets hunters, weasels, ice skaters, Jack Frost, an evil hen and cat, and a flock of beautiful swans who take him to a peaceful garden as the Spring approaches.

Robin has created many roles for the children to dance, giving them the opportunity to develop their acting and dancing skills.
