The romantic and poignant story of a courtesan who sacrifices love for the honour of her lover's family is the theme of Veronica Paeper's ballet Camille. Based on The Lady of the Camellias which focuses on the doomed affair of Marguerite, renamed Camille in this ballet, and Armand. She agrees and the story unfolds of a woman denied love who then dies as much from consumption as from a broken heart. Camille is danced to Cape Town composer Allan Stephenson's arrangement of Verdi's music for La Traviata. |
