Cinderella & Spring Selection

4 - 22 & 27 - 29 October 2005
Artscape Opera House

Cape Town City Ballet will be performing Veronica Paeper's popular ballet Cinderella at the Artscape Opera House from 4 to 22 October, 2005. This enchanting 'once upon a time' story of Cinderella, Prince Charming and the Ugly Sisters never fails to delight audiences.

Paeper's production, set to Sergei Prokoviev's lavish three-act score, includes spectacular ballroom scenes, lashings of humour, plenty of romantic pas de deux and - of course - a happy ending.

Marianne Bauer and real-life husband Coert Grobbelaar will dance the roles of Cinderella and Prince Charming on opening night, with Johnny Bovang and Robin van Wyk as the Ugly Sisters. The Fairy Godmother will be danced by Christy Johnson, with Manie Irving in the role of the Jester. Other principal casts include Tracy Li with Daniel Rajna, Megan Swart with Johnny Bovang, Simone Muller with Robin van Wyk, and Laura Bosenberg with Andre Sauer.

The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra will play under the baton of Michael Hankinson at selected performances. Costumes and decor are by Peter Cazalet.

Cape Town City Ballet also presents Spring Selection from 27 to 29 October, 2005 at Artscape Opera House. The programme consists of short works including Veronica Paeper's complete Concerto for Charlie, set to Piano Concerto No 2 by Shostokovich ,and Robin van Wyk’s Ensemble for Six. This production will also feature performance by a talented group of young dancers from the Zama Dance School.
