SwingTime at the Ballet

6 December 2003 - 3 January 2004
Artscape Theatre

The world premier of SwingTime at the Ballet showcases the diverse talent of the Cape Town City Ballet dancers, incorporating varied dance styles such as tap, jazz and big band show dancing. Bovim's work takes the audience on a nostalgic journey through music and dance, using both instrumental and vocals from artists such as Cole Porter, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. His work will ensure you a trip to the romantic and exciting bygone era where music and dance was associated with style, romance and glamour.

"My ballet has more to do with the enjoyment and celebration of dance" says Bovim of his work. This season features the entire company and includes favorite dancers like Tracy Li, Daniel Rajna, Marianne Bauer and Johnny Bovang. ShowTime at the Ballet premiers on the 6th December at the Artscape Theatre and runs to the 3rd January 2004.
"We needed some thing young and vibrant to take us into 2004, especially as it's our 70th year of existance. Sean's work has always been challenging an accessible and Veronica Paeper's Cinderella is certainly one of her most entertaining ballets" say's Cape Town City Ballet's Executive Chairman, Prof. Elizabeth Triegaardt.

"Cape Town will play hostess to many tourists over this period" Say's Triegaardt. "So we have prepared a season that will appeal to families, sophisticated couples and those who are still young at heart, with a programme that ranges from comedy and make-belief to nostalgia and athleticism.
