For more than a century, this two act romantic production has enjoyed huge success and has been one of the best known ballets of all time. At it's premier in 1841 in Paris, it was hailed as one of the greatest of all ballets. Known as the "Hamlet" of dance, this production highlights the ballerina as a dancer and an actress. The story tells of a young peasant girl, Giselle who falls in love with a duke, Albrecht who is diguised as a peasant. With his identity revealed to Giselle she goes mad and dances herself to death. She becomes on of the Willis, spirits of young girls who die before their weddings. The Queen of the Willis commands Giselle to lure Albrecht to his death but she dances with him until dawn when he gently carries her back to her grave.

The Cape Town City Ballet's production of Giselle based on David poole's version is danced to music by Adolphe Adam and has been staged and produced by the Executive Director to the CTCB, Elizabeth Triegaardt. Giselle feature the incredible partnerships of Tracy Li, Daniel Rajna, Marianne Bauer and Johnny Bovang in the leading roles.
